Understanding Comics by Scott McCloud
Published 1993. Structured as a sort of comic strip going through the history and mechanics (?) of comics. Reading due to my interest in Creating Webcomics. The book itself being in the form of a comic is definitely making it fun to read and is part of the appeal of reading it.

Notes
Chapter 1: "Setting the Record Straight"
- Constructs a definition of comics: "Juxtaposed pictorial and other images in deliberate sequence, intended to convey information and/or to produce an aesthetic response in the viewer." Or, for short, "Sequential art".
- Walked through historical examples (even from thousands of years ago) of "comics" that fit into that definition.
- Ponders what the future form of comics might look like (since it's been so varied in the past) -- making me contemplate what virtual reality comics might look like. VR animation wouldn't count as "comics", but maybe "flipping" through changing 3d scenes would be a VR comic.
