On Privacy

Meta > On Blogging

As can be hinted in Please Don't Spearphish Me, I a conscientious of the dilemma of having a blog like this versus possible privacy and safety concerns. I have always been careful about what I post online, and suddenly I am encouraging myself to post more personal thoughts, opinions, and details -- obviously I'm avoiding posting information that would lead to someone being able to harm me, but it's scary to think about what could slip through which someone malicious could leverage. What's there to be scared of? Stalker, hacker, threats. I don't think anyone has a reason to target me in particular, but it's the Internet. You never know.

From Youtuber benoftheweek's podcast "DRAMA MAMA" in an episode called "Omegle shut down", talking about how Gen-Z posts online more anonymously and less of personal content (I'm slightly censoring quote to make family friendly):

"They'll have a thousand videos, but never a video of themselves. Which, like, I think is very valid, they're onto something. We don't need to be sharing personal things/details, probably, on the Internet. The logical side of my brain is like, no, do not share anything about yourself online. Digital footprint, all that. But the heart and soul of me is like, damn, if we don't do that, if we're not putting a piece of ourselves on the Internet, what is the Internet then. It's gonna be another form of TV where these hyper-curated, polished influencers are just pumping out junk food content for us to see that doesn't make us think or want us to chime in or inspire us to create anything of our own."
